Anacortes HS Bridge to College English Class Field Trip

P1010041

Just got a note from Michele Feist at Anacortes High School about an exciting event that she organized for her Bridge to College English class (see photo above), and with her permission, I’ve copied it here:
“On February 10th 17 students from Anacortes High School and Cap Sante High School experienced “Try-A-Trade” day at Bellingham Technical College in Bellingham.

This field trip, funded by Soroptimist International of Anacortes, was the first experience outside the classroom for our Bridge to College English Language Arts class. This year we have had advising representatives from both Bellingham Tech and Skagit Valley College to help students in this class get a head start in achieving their post high school plans.

Both Bellingham Tech and Skagit Valley College have presented program options, have helped students with the application process, and placement testing & advising details in the Bridge to College English classroom. These visits have made the possibilities a reality as many students have applied, taken the placement tests, and are on track to start their education at one of these two schools.

As a teacher of seniors in high school, I have always wished for more assistance for the students who feel early on that they will not attend a 4-year university. With the inception of the Bridge to College program and the wonderful relationships we are building with these local alternatives, I have seen students with solid plans much earlier than ever before. Hope for a higher education and a job that can support their potential families is stronger now.

By attending the Bellingham Tech “Try-A-Trade” day, many of the students on the field trip either solidified their plans or found some new ideas to help develop what direction they want to take their future.

What a great day!”
